WordPress Blogs can be notorious for loading slowly, or having script issues, and sometimes they might need a quick cleanup. You’ll want your WordPress blog or website to run faster than ever. And though there are many WordPress Hosting companies out there, you can also take the leap and improve your WP blog speed yourself. Here’s how…
- Sweep revisions & deleted data
- Reduce your plugins usage
- Reduce the code in your site
- Block Out Bots & Hackers
- Block Commenting Use Alternatives
While it may seem obvious to most, bear with me, I’m about to tell you something new!
1. Sweep Press
I have changed the plugin I use to sweep WP SITES, and now everything runs faster & smoother. Save a backup just incase. But this one hasn’t failed me yet. The plugin I use is called – Sweep Press. You’ve got to try it. You can unblock the chron jobs, and other issues you’ve been facing. And clean up more expired transients with SP.
2. Clean Old Plugins
I keep my plugins to a bare minimum. I uninstall them when I’m not using them too. Some WP DO IT ALL. Backup your site and test which plugins are really necessary. You can also uninstall plugins like Demo Importer, etc. Anyway, some plugins are so heavy, you may as well find a new better alternative. Don’t be afraid to try it.
3. Reduce Your Code
Reducing code, code plugins, and tasks, and chron jobs makes sense.
Have a look at WP Code Lite. This plugin does amazing things. You can block comments, and insert AdSense, all from one slim plugin. You can insert javascript adverts that don’t usually show, and you can change the look of your site with a little code, and make it your own/a unique site. I think this is the best plugin I’ve found. Since using both WP Code, and Sweep Press, my sites are loading faster than ever, and finally ranking faster than ever. Sometimes we use huge plugins to insert advertisements, but really just have a try with this great plugin.
4. Block Out Bots & Hackers
Though WP are making an effort now to ensure that things are more secure. Cleaning your website will also help. Blocking, and looking people out, or leaving a access denied message, will definitely get the message across. Make sure that after you’ve cleaned up your blog or website, that you ensure your fire wall, malware, and other security header blockers are all up to date and working. Then, set your security plugin to block hackers, and leave them a message. You can also use Clean Talk, and they run a service where they can clean your site if infected. They are REALLY helpful, even with the free version. I highly recommend them.
5. Stop The Spam
Be sure to block comments, or SPAM comments. Some comments can cause really bad issues, they are loaded with harmful links, I don’t know much about this, but as well as the many attempts to clog up your site, spam comments can actually break your site. The same goes for spam emails. Just make sure you set security high.
Beware All Plugins Are NOT The Same
If you have multi-site hosting, or shared hosting, or whatever, you should definitely clean up your WP websites, clean up your code, reduce vulnerabilities. And check out the security recommendations I posted HERE.
I feel strongly about using random plugins, and I try to ensure all the plugins are legitimate. It’s really important. Also some WP plugins take up a lot of space, or are heavy on loading time. You need to use the fastest most thorough plugins. Then delete the ones you don’t need, or don’t use. Back up your site, and test if you need them. Some plugins that come with themes are simply not necessary, unless you are on a mission impossible WP task.
Even professional premium plugins and themes can potentially cause havoc. You need to keep an eye on the site. Test your WP blogs and sites out. And be aware, keep the back door closed. Update everything often.
